Mrs. Oyebola Adeleye is a widow in her thirties with a set of 11 year old twins and a 9 year old. She was a teacher with the Lagos State Government before she lost her job about 2 years ago. She also lost her husband about a year ago.
Shortly after she lost her husband, her house was razed to the ground by fire and she lost all she had. She had to put up in a nearby C& S Church as there was no relation or anyone willing to take her and her children in. She and her children have been living in the Church till this present moment. The environment has drastically affected the children’s academic performance. Their performance before this time has been impressive with a likelihood that they may be able to secure scholarships if they continued in that path. The drop in their performance and general wellbeing is as a result of vigils that are held 3-4 times a week at the Church where they live. They hardly get enough sleep nor eat well anymore.
It was our F/P that got an email from Mrs. Jibike Oyewunmi who got to know the plight of this family from her friend who had been assisting them but has now relocated out of the country. In our discussion with Mrs.Adeleye, when we went to visit her and the children, we found out that they are in dire need of accommodation over their heads and a means of sustenance for her to live on and care for the children.
The sum of N100, 000 was given to the family for payment of hospital bills for the sick children, upkeep of the family for some months and a startup capital for groundnut/rice business which will serve as a source of income for the family.
